Become a Successful Businessman

Become a Successful Businessman

You feel that there is very little that you can contribute for the growth of the company, and so you think of stepping into business, yourself. It is easy to think of starting a business, but to bring it to success requires hard work, perseverance, enthusiasm and determination. Every successful businessman has started small, struggled, work even harder, and thus found their path to success.

Running a business involves many risks, like, you need to find your own customers, and there is no regular income. You may face problems in financing and marketing also. In short, this is very different from a routine job. So, as a businessman you need to go by your instincts and make the right decisions. You should be alert enough to spot a need in the market and think of smart solutions to fill the gap. So, the biggest quality that you ought to have as a businessman is to have self confidence in your abilities and a "can do" attitude.

As a businessman, the toughest task you might face is to get the right people on board. You need to evaluate and obtain the right kind of people, who are not only excellent performers in what they do, but are good team players also. You should never commit the mistake of hiring friends or other people whom you like. Also, when you work together, differences might arise, and so, there is something wrong if your employees nod and praise you for everything. You need to trust your staff, and provide them encouragement and guidance. In turn, they will give you honest opinions, and help to take your business to the next level.

You might borrow money from friends and family to start a business. Or, you might have to take money from banks or other financial institutions. In either case, your aim should be to reduce the costs and overheads, and work towards improving efficiency. Always try to start small, but efficient.

Give the best service to your clients. Your aim should be to gain new clients from appreciations and references provided by the existing clients. Your clients should speak about you to their clients and thus contribute and make your business grow. So, you ought to be very careful even in the messages you sent across to your clients.

Keep your team motivated. Do not find fault too often, and no blame games also. You should celebrate even a small success and appreciate your team members for the smallest step they have taken towards success. You and your people may make mistakes. It is okay to make mistakes, as long as you learn from them. See to it that you never repeat a mistake.

And finally, you ought to be very passionate in all that you do. There is no shortcut to success. You need to work hard and dedicate yourself to it, and your efforts will be rewarded.

Tips For Applying for a Job

Tips For Applying for a Job

Applying for a Job

There are four general methods of applying for a job including:

(1) mailing your resume,

(2) emailing your resume,

(3) faxing your resume, and

(4) hand delivering your resume.

Mailing Your Resume

Some companies prefer that you mail your resume. For this type of approach, it is best to include a cover letter with your resume. The cover letter is a basic letter that describes the position that you are interested in and a few details of your qualifications and skills. It is basically your lead in to it. Before writing your cover letter, you should know whom the letter is to be addressed to. You never want to begin a cover letter with "Dear Sir or Madame" or "To whom it may Concern." It shows that you have not prepared, and that you are not looking for a specific position with their company, but any job that you can get your hands on. Basically, it is disrespectful to your prospective employer.

Emailing Your Resume

Emailing resumes is becoming a commonplace way for recruiters to get them. Attach it as a word document or a PDF file. These are the most common formats and what most companies will accept. The subject line should read like this: Smith, John (Accounting Position). This makes it easy for the recruiter to know who the email is from, and what it pertains to. It also assures that your email will be read. Sometimes there are specific methods for addressing an emailed resume. Some companies have certain subject line requirements (so follow them!). If the company wants you to paste it, don't send attachments because your email will be deleted right away.

Faxing Your Resume

You will need to include a cover letter when faxing your resume. If you are not using your own fax machine, be sure to include your proper contact information. The rules for your cover letter are the same as for mailing it.

Hand Delivering Your Resume

You will want to dress appropriately, as you would for an interview. Generally, companies ask you to do this if you are going to be working directly with customers. They ask for a walk-in because they want to get a look at your grooming habits right away. Sometimes, the employer will give you a brief interview on the spot to see if they will require a formal interview later. So be on your best and most appropriate behavior. Also, walk-ins do not require you to bring a cover letter with your resume. Your appearance is sort of the cover letter. Sometimes, you will be requested to fill out an application form as well. Smile and be polite, no matter who you are speaking with.

Top Ten Job Searching Tips

Top Ten Job Searching Tips

Top Ten Job Searching Tips
How many of these have you read? Here we go again, but this time I am concentrating on those matters which have emerged over the last two to three years, that we often neglected or failed to use in the past; mainly it's to do with new technology.

1. Get a professional email address.

Ditch the babyangel@gmail.com. Now is the time to professionalise yourself, use your proper name or professional name.

2. Google yourself.

Sounds egotistic doesn't it? But just in case you wrote something many years ago, and it raises its head to bite you in the foot, it is better to check what is out there on you in cyber space. Also while we are at it, blog your email address, telephone number and address as well, all these can leave a digital footprint exposing yourself to other information .

3. Add your email address to your CV or resume.

How many times do I see this omission?

4. Start blogging.

This is a free way of getting yourself known and building your profile.

5. Register on online job sites.

There are many: seek.com, TradeMe/jobs.co.nz, and also check out your local newspaper online listings.

6. Use social networking sites to your advantage.

Make a special professional Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Bebo etc account specifically to your work environment, keep your personal social networks to your friends.

7. Network.

Join societies, organisations and clubs associated to your career. Check out the Yellow Pages and online directories to see what is available, then network with these people.

8. Specialize - Become a Subject Matter Expert.

A sophisticated society has many specialist roles, therefore, the more specialised you are or can become, the more expertise you can provide, and more value to an employer's team. But don't forget to be a generalist in all areas connected with your career.

9. Lead from your strengths.

If you know what you are good at, or above average, or just brilliant at ... then move from that area first. If you are good at public speaking then use that as your primary form of accentuating your strengths.

10. Mitigate your weaknesses.

Similar to number nine. Play down your weaknesses. Avoid (especially in those first couple of meetings) those things that you are not so good at, or generally don't like doing.

Tips for Interviewing for Financial

Tips for Interviewing for Financial

Financial advisors are responsible for giving people advice regarding stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Interviewing for financial advisor jobs can be a pretty harrowing experience. Here are a few tips for doing well in the interview.

You should be aware that any type of financial advisor job will require a lot of salesmanship. You have to have confidence while letting your customers know what investments would be best for them and sometimes it requires you to be a type of salesperson. Therefore, the person interviewing you wants to see if you are confident and outgoing enough or not. You will be required to work with clients one-on-one in most cases, so you'll need to be quite personable and friendly as well.

Make sure you are dressing for success here. A suit is your best option. You will be required to dress in a similar fashion on a day-to-day basis. Keep in mind you may be called back for a second interview, so have a second suit available. You don't want to wear the same one twice for both interviews because you may see the first person you interviewed with again.

When interviewing for these jobs, it's important to ask your interviewer questions about the company. This means that you should do some research beforehand. See what type of products they have to offer and mention them over the course of the interview. This will show that you have indeed done some research on the company. Ask about company team building or events as well, so it looks like you are really interested in them, not just any old job.

Doing research first not only makes you look good, but you may find out things about certain companies that you don't like or others that you really do. Find the companies you most want to work for and interview for those first. If you are excited about working for a company, it will show in the interview, so this will be a big benefit to you.

The salary range of financial advisor jobs will vary. You will probably have to build your client base on your own. You should look to interview with companies that will help supplement your initial salary, until you're well on your way.

Finding financial advisor jobs soon after you graduate with a degree can prove to be difficult in many cases. It's often a good idea to try to land a job at a bank. You would often get a higher salary to start with, as well as help with your professional exams.

Interviewing for these jobs if you already have experience will be much easier. Experience goes a long way, especially if you already have the proper certifications.

These are a few tips for interviewing for financial advisor jobs. Make sure that you appear to be outgoing since the job requires plenty of communication and networking skills. Also, it's in your best interests to do some research on the company you are interviewing for to show that you are really interested in it.

What Are Work Ethics

What Are Work Ethics

Do you cheat your colleagues? Blame your peers for mistakes? Procrastinate when it comes to projects? Use inappropriate language during official conversations? Talk rudely to your customers? I certainly hope you don't, because these are unethical practices.

Abiding by work ethics is a matter of conscience. Ethics encompasses honesty, integrity, your sense of responsibility, character and the overall behavioural traits that enable you to do your job well.

Punctuality and Attendance
It's a trait that adds value to your personality and image. Do you arrive at the office on time every day? Do you attend meetings and appointments on schedule? Absenteeism and procrastination are the indicators of your poor ethics and decreasing job performance.

Be punctual and don't take unplanned leave unless absolutely necessary. Keep a reminder or use Google Calendar to stay on schedule. An efficient and ethical employee makes a time schedule. They make a priority list of their tasks and perform them in order of their importance.

Your Character
It is said in the corporate world that a strong character is the real face of work ethics. Most employers expect their employees to display certain traits that help the company to achieve its objectives. The characters include:
- Honesty
- Reliability
- Discipline
- Dependability
- Loyalty
- Trustworthiness

Self-Management
How prudently you handle your personal problems, emotions and how clearly you draw a line between your personal life and professional life says a lot about your work ethics. Bringing your home affairs into office, gossiping, spreading rumours or bullying others are not considered ethical activities.

Team Work
Team work is very important for the success of the business as well as its team members. Employees should have a sense of how they should behave with others. Every staff member should conduct themselves in such a way that others are not hurt, discouraged or de-motivated. Respect your colleagues, learn from them, be assertive, motivate them, and don't behave in an angry or rude manner with anybody. Any conflict or misunderstanding can be resolved peacefully through dialogue.

Appearance
The way you dress conveys your professional image. An unkempt appearance lowers your confidence and gives the impression that you are sloppy in your work. You are likely to leave an excellent impression when professionally dressed.

Productivity
An ethical employee uses every minute of his or her work time only for work. To be productive during the working hours, you should be well aware of the Occupational Health & Safety procedures and follow the directions properly.

So the final question is; How do you get a good work ethic? Well, you learn it from your parents, through encouraging seminars, courses and training programs.

Ethics Can Impact Career Success

Ethics Can Impact Career Success

Do you know how professional values and ethics can impact career success for you? You may not be aware of it, but values and ethics are very important in business. In fact, it doesn't matter what industry you work in. You will find that having good ethics will get you much farther than you would without them. This may actually seem counter-intuitive in some industries, such as sales, but it's true even then. Here are the top two reasons why you need to have good values and professional ethics to succeed in business.

1. People will know that your word is good. This is very important in any industry. When you have solid professional values and ethics, your clients and co-workers will know without a doubt that your word is to be trusted and that you mean what you say. This will make you well respected among those with whom you work every day, and will eventually put you in the coveted "go-to" person position. When it is known that you can be relied on and trusted at your word, you will find yourself going far in any profession.

2. You will develop a reputation as a hard worker who gets the job done. Having professional ethics means doing your job diligently and doing it right. It means asking questions if you don't know the answer to something and going out of your way to meet and exceed both company and customer expectations. You will show pride in your work when you have professional ethics, and it will show. People will notice. This will eventually lead to you being given increasingly important responsibilities and advancements at work will start coming your way before you know it. You'll be on the fast track to success, all because you have integrity and a demonstrated commitment to honoring your responsibilities to the best of your ability and even beyond.

If you want to succeed at work, you need to know how professional values and ethics can impact your quest. As you can see, having them and using them makes a huge difference in your professional activities.

For many Americans, professional values and ethics are going to be more important than ever when pursuing a new or different career path. To learn more about values and ethics visit http://www.themoneypuzzle.com

The Ethics of Soliciting Side Jobs

The Ethics of Soliciting Side Jobs

He made hay during the run-up of the real estate bubble, but then he didn't have nearly as much work to keep him busy. Luckily, his superior skill and ability to get it right kept him in the referral arena as wealthy clientele choose him for their remodels. Still for this ambitious young man, it was hardly enough, he wanted more, so he now has a new strategy. He has multiple sourcing of income, let me explain.

You see, now he has become an independent contractor salesperson for a major cable and Internet service provider. Whenever he goes and does the tile for any of his clients, or even when he helps his friends who are also doing tile, he mentions to the people that own the home that they might like to try the new high-speed Internet and bundled services. Sometimes he does subcontracting work for other contractors where they send him onto a job site to do tile. He said he never misses a beat, and asks everyone if they need Internet and cable TV services, and if any of their friends might as well.

Next, whenever he gets referred to put in Internet or cable, while he is doing that he turns on his salesmanship charm and asked the residents if they need any remodeling or tile work done at their home either inside the home, or out on the patio. He will even do special brick work and other minor remodeling construction services, anything that he is good at. Now, he may very well have a contract with the cable company, where he is supposed to do their business, and not sell other things on the job.

Many companies like this have such stipulations in their contract to prevent conflict of interest or lawsuits. Despite that legal agreement, is it ethical or is it non-ethical to be soliciting side jobs while working for another service company, or corporation? One could say that he is only trying to make a living, and being friendly with the people that own the home. Others might say he is in a trusted position, and when he goes to sell other services, he is "selling away" a term which is used in the broker-dealer business, and it has implications in the securities and investment regulatory environment.

Sometimes there is a gray area between what is proper, what is legal, what has been contracted for, and free speech, common courtesy, and non-spoken rules of human communication. I offer up this example and case study for you to consider and think on. Please consider it.
